The Moon is 384,400 km from Earth and is its only natural satellite. It is the fifth largest natural satellite in the Solar System.

The Moon orbits the Earth once every month and the change in the angle between the Earth, the Moon and the Sun is known as the cycle of the Moon’s phases. The Moon completely orbits the Earth every 27.3 days and lunar phases repeat every 29.5 days.

Since ancient times the Moon been worshipped as a powerful force linked with the cyclic rhythms of life.

The Moon is linked strongly with femininity and its' phases have connections with the cycles of nature, crops, seasons and female fertility.

Many cultures still view the moon calendar as important and hold festivals and celebrations around the lunar phases.
