When is Beltane?

Beltane marks the day when the sun is equidistant between its vernal equinox and summer solstice.

Beltane is an ancient celtic festival and was when the herds were taken to their summer pastures. In Limerick, in the Republic of Ireland, an annual bonfire night is held on Beltane. This is a cultural remenant of the great Bealtane fire which was lit on the central hill of Uisneach ‘the navel of Ireland’ (in modern day County Westmeath).
