When is St Crispins Day?

St Crispin is the patron saint of shoemakers. His day is remembered in non-Catholic England because of the famous battle of Agincourt that took place on the 25th October 1415.

Countdown to St Crispins Day

There are -467 days until St Crispins Day.
There are -11224 hours until St Crispins Day.

More specifically it is rembered because in Shakespeare's play Henry V. In Act 4, Scene 3 the young warriror King adresses his troops prior to battle and gives a stirring speech that concludes:

"And gentlemen in England now-a-bed Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."

Famous screen performances by Laurence Olivier and Kenneth Brannagh allow us all to see what great drama can flow from Shakespeare's pen. If you want to see performances of this amazing play, the Royal Shakespeare Company have theatres in both London and Stratford Upon Avon where many original plays are performed throughout the year.

the Battle of Balaklava (Crimean War) occured on the same day in 1854. Oddly enough this also has been imortalised in poetry.

The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

Half a league, half a league,
 Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns' he said:
Into the valley of Death
 Rode the six hundred.
